Pipe Ten, a UK based web hosting provider, today announced that they have partnered with R1Soft, a developer of Continuous Data Protection. The company states that it now offers free backups on all its shared hosting plans.
It further says that R1Soft's Near Continuous Data Protection solution boasts a full server imaging service using a combination of full OS disk imaging and incremental data imaging and will even backup open and locked files. It allows the fast restoration of data both on a per file or per database level through to a full bare-metal disk/server restore.
Pipe Ten's Technical Director, Carl Heaton said, ''Data Security is obviously a key issue for all businesses these days. The implementation of R1Soft's Near Continuous Data Protection solution is a great move for us as it allows us to have the flexibility of being able to quickly restore individual files for customers as well as having a current and complete image backup of the servers for disaster recovery purposes. Host Color Upgrades VPS Hosting Plans
Host Color, a provider of VPS Hosting services, today announced that its VPS Hosting services powered by Parallels Virtuozzo Containers virtualization technology, now features more RAM, and increased disc space and data transfer quotas. The company states that it has also extended its promotional campaign on VPS Start entry level virtual private server. The VPS Start features 256 MB RAM, 10 GB disc space, 100 GB data transfer, and costs $19.95/mo.
The company adds that it has launched a coupon - VPS2009 - that offers 1 free service month with all virtual private servers. The coupon is valid until April 30 2009. The entry level virtual server - VPS Start now offers 256 MB RAM, 10 GB disc space and 100 GB data transfer per month. The previous allocated RAM was 192. The monthly data transfer quota for VPS Start is doubled from 50 GB to 100 GB. It further explains that another virtual private server - VPS Advance now comes with an increased data transfer quota of 250 GB transfer per month. This resource increase for VPS is less than these that applied to other virtual servers. VPS Advance customers are also eligible to use the coupon VPS2009, that gives them a free service month.
The company states that its pre-configured virtual private server - VPS Power - now features 1280 MB RAM, 50 GB disc space and 500 GB data transfer per month. It avers that it has increased memory for this plan from 1024 to 1280 RAM and data transfer from 350 GB to 500 GB per month. It adds that it also increased the resources for its VPS Custom virtual private server. It now offers 1792 MB RAM, 100GB disc space and 1000 GB monthly data transfer.

YouTube EDU is a volunteer project sparked by a group of employees who wanted to find a better way to collect and highlight all the great educational content being uploaded to YouTube by colleges and universities. Even a video I posted on ZDNet showing me playing with Art Rage on a convertible Classmate generated “related video” at the end that, while not inappropriate, was utterly irrelevant. Yet YouTube makes it so easy for students, schools, staff, etc., to upload, embed, and share video, it’s hard to argue with its utility. iMovie, for example, practically begs you to upload video directly to YouTube and, again, it’s just so easy.
Yet the amount of junk that exists side-by-side with serious educational resources on YouTube makes it less attractive, particularly as a site for hosting video (as opposed to a resource that students can use under teacher supervision). There are ways of embedding video in a website, whether Windows Media or Quicktime, but these tend to be much tougher for student-generated content. Schools can set up streaming servers, as well, but again, this introduces an added layer of management. TeacherTube provides a cleaner alternative, but remains slow and less accessible to kids who want to post their own content.
